Intelligence

Territory Intel

Analyze E-Rate spending in any territory. See total spend, the top manufacturers, the product mix and the biggest district buyers, then look at one manufacturer in detail or compare up to six side by side.

Territory Intel replaces the earlier Market Intelligence tool.

What it does

Territory Intel totals FCC Form 471 line items from USAC Open Data (FRN line items). The results change depending on how many manufacturers you pick:

Manufacturers pickedWhat you get
NoneThe whole market in the territory
OneA drill-down on that manufacturer
Two to sixA side-by-side comparison

The line next to the Manufacturers label tells you which of these you'll get.

Filters

Geography Level

  • State (default) — choose states, or leave empty for all states
  • Nationwide
  • BEN — enter up to 250 BEN numbers
  • County, City and ZIP Code are listed but not available yet

Product Types — limit the analysis to USAC product types such as Switch, Access Point, UPS/ Battery Backup or Cabling. Leave empty for all product types.

Funding year — All Years, or a single FY back to FY2016. The current funding year is selected by default.

Manufacturers (optional) — pick up to six (see below).

Click Analyze to run the analysis. When you change filters, the previous results stay on screen, dimmed, until the new ones load.

Picking manufacturers

Start typing in the manufacturer box to see USAC make names with their spend and number of BENs for the selected funding year. With the box empty, it lists the top manufacturers.

  • Exact names — choose a name from the list to match that make exactly as USAC records it.
  • Contains matches — press Enter, or choose Any name containing "...", to match every make whose name contains your text. This also matches manufacturer names applicants typed in under "Other". Contains matches appear as chips labeled contains "text".

Name hints

USAC records some brands under a different make name. When you type one of these brands, the list says which names USAC uses and marks them USAC name, and a hint offers a one-click swap. Examples:

  • HPE → "Aruba" and "Hewlett Packard"
  • Vertiv → "Liebert"
  • APC or Schneider Electric → "American Power Conversion"
  • Tripp Lite → "Tripplite"
  • Cisco Meraki → "Meraki"

If you type a product word such as "UPS", "switches" or "firewall", a hint explains that the manufacturer box only matches make names. It offers to move that word to the Product Types filter instead.

Results without a manufacturer

  • Districts in Territory, Total E-Rate Spend, States Covered, Funding Years
  • AI Territory Summary — a short AI-written summary of the results
  • Top Manufacturers — the manufacturers active in the territory, with Districts, Total Spend and Share of Equipment
  • By State and Top Products
  • District Buyers — the top 50 districts by spend, with BEN and latest year

Single-manufacturer drill-down

  • Districts Reached (with the share of districts that buy equipment) and Total E-Rate Spend (with the share of the territory's equipment spend)
  • Territory market · all manufacturers — the totals that every share is measured against
  • Matched manufacturer names (for contains matches) — every USAC make name your text matched, including names typed in under "Other"
  • By State, including Share of State, the manufacturer's share of that state's equipment spend
  • Top Products and District Buyers

If the manufacturer has no line items for your filters, Territory Intel tells you why and suggests what to try next, such as the USAC name for the brand, a product-type filter, or matching manufacturers outside your territory.

Comparing manufacturers

Add two to six manufacturers to compare them. Each manufacturer keeps the same color throughout the page.

  • Territory market · all manufacturers — total spend, equipment spend, districts, districts buying equipment, and the top manufacturers in the territory
  • Manufacturer cards — spend, share of the territory's equipment spend, districts reached, average spend per district, states covered and line items
  • AI Comparison Summary
  • Side by side — each metric in one table, with columns for Selected combined and Territory. The leading value in each row is bold.
  • Spend by funding year — switch between Spend and Share, and between Chart and Table. When you pick a single funding year, this section still shows every year.
  • State by state — each manufacturer's spend and share of every state's equipment spend, plus the leader in each state (shown when the territory covers more than one state)
  • Top product types — Product mix (what each manufacturer sells) or Market share (who wins each product type)
  • Top districts by manufacturer — each manufacturer's 10 biggest buyers, with a filter for a single manufacturer

If one make name matches two of your choices, for example two overlapping contains matches, a note explains that its spend counts toward both.

How the numbers work

  • Spend is the pre-discount eligible cost on FCC Form 471 line items.
  • Each line item counts once. Line items use the version USAC last processed, or the filed version while the request is still pending. Duplicate rows in USAC's data are ignored.
  • Equipment means line items that name a manufacturer. Services such as internet access don't name one. Every share is a share of the territory's equipment spend, and "reach" is a share of the districts that bought equipment.
  • Other (write-in makes) is USAC's make for manufacturers that aren't on its dropdown list.

Exports

Click Export Excel to download the current results. Every workbook starts with a Scope sheet listing your filters, the basis for the figures and when USAC last updated the data. The other sheets depend on what you ran:

  • Whole market or drill-down: District Buyers, By State, By Year, Top Manufacturers, Top Products
  • Comparison: Comparison, Spend by Year, State Matrix, Product Types, Top Districts, Matched Makes, Territory Top Makes

Tips

  • Searching every funding year nationwide reads millions of line items and can take a while. Picking a state or a single funding year is much faster.
  • If a brand returns nothing, follow the name hint or choose a name from the suggestions as you type.
