Market Report

The full applicant demand report for one funding year: applicant counts, pre-discount demand and requested amounts, top vendors, brands and service providers, and Category 1 / Category 2 breakdowns by function, make, provider and applicant.

What it does

The Market Report is built from USAC Open Data: FCC Form 471 Basic Information (9s6i-myen), FRN Status (qdmp-ygft) and FRN Line Items (hbj5-2bpj). The data is refreshed nightly. The report has 15 tables and charts in nine sections. Use the section bar at the top of the report to jump between sections.

Report sections

  1. Demand Snapshot — FY Applicant Count and Demand: totals for Applicants, Pre-discount demand and Requested (E-Rate share), each split into Cat 1 and Cat 2. Also Applicant Count by Applicant Type (with a % column comparing to the prior funding year), Pre-Discount Expenses by Applicant Type and Requested Amount by Applicant Type, each with a trend chart across funding years.
  2. Top 20 — Top C1 Vendors, Top Hardware Brands, Top C2 Service Providers and the Top Applicants (Category 1, Category 2 and total amounts), ranked by total pre-discount cost. BENs are distinct applicants. The section title follows the list size you choose, or reads Top Lists when the lists are different sizes.
  3. C1 Vendors × Service Type — Category 1 pre-discount cost by vendor and service type, with Cust. Count (distinct applicant BENs)
  4. C1 by Function — Category 1 amounts by function, with BENs and number of service providers
  5. C2 by Function — Category 2 and Category 1 hardware by equipment function, plus Category 2 by service type
  6. C2 Make × Function — Category 2 pre-discount cost by equipment make and function
  7. C2 Providers × Function — Category 2 pre-discount cost by service provider and function
  8. Providers × Makes — top Category 2 service providers by the top equipment makes. Everything else falls under Other.
  9. Applicants × Makes — top applicants by the top equipment makes (Category 1 hardware and Category 2). Negative amounts are credits and adjustments.

A Methodology note at the end explains how the figures are counted, which data sources were used, and when they were updated and synced.

Filters

Filters apply as soon as you change them.

  • Funding Year — only funding years that have been loaded are listed
  • States — leave empty for nationwide
  • Applicant Types
  • FRN Statuses — for example, Funded and Pending only

Click Clear filters to reset them. The trend charts apply the state and applicant type filters, but not the FRN status filter.

Customize

Click Customize to change how figures are measured and how large the tables are. Click Apply to save your changes, or Cancel to discard them. A badge on the button shows how many settings differ from the defaults.

Figures

SettingOptions
AmountsEligible pre-discount (default): USAC's eligible pre-discount cost, which is what funding requests are based on. Total cost incl. ineligible: adds the ineligible portions.
Funding requestsLatest (default): USAC's committed record once a decision is issued, otherwise the request as filed. As filed: every request as the applicant filed it on Form 471, before any changes from USAC's review.
Service providersBy SPIN (default): one row per SPIN. Brand families: one row per brand, combining a carrier's SPINs. The Excel export lists the SPINs in each family.

Requested is always the amount × the FRN's discount rate.

The Match FFL's report button switches all three settings at once (Total cost incl. ineligible, As filed, Brand families). Click Back to USAC eligible amounts to restore the defaults.

Table sizes

  • Top lists — the number of rows in each top list (5–100). The default is 20.
  • Rows per cross-tab — the number of rows in each cross-tab table (5–200).
  • Make columns — for the Providers × Makes and Applicants × Makes tables. Top makes by amount uses the largest makes, with a setting for how many columns (1–25). Choose makes lets you pick the exact makes to show as columns.

The report header always lists the current Amounts, Requests and Providers settings.

Exports

  • Export Excel — downloads the whole report, with one sheet per table. Each sheet starts with the table's title, the filters and the data dates.
  • Excel on any section — downloads only that section's tables
  • Print / Save as PDF — prints only the report, with each section starting on a new page. Use your browser's print dialog to save it as a PDF.

Data freshness

The header shows USAC data as of (the date USAC last updated its data) and Synced (when the report data was last loaded). Hover over the date to see each dataset's update time.

Preparing report data

If the data isn't loaded yet, the report shows Preparing report data with the current status:

  • While a refresh is running, the report checks again every 20 seconds and appears automatically when it's ready. This takes a few minutes.
  • If the funding year you picked hasn't been loaded, choose one of the loaded years from the buttons shown.
  • If the last refresh failed, the next scheduled refresh tries again. Click Check again to recheck.

How the numbers work

  • Applicant counts are distinct applicant BENs.
  • In the default Latest setting, denied and cancelled FRNs still count toward Requested. To reproduce USAC's request totals, filter FRN Statuses to Funded and Pending.
  • Make names are normalized, for example Aruba and Hewlett Packard become HPE Aruba, Liebert becomes Vertiv, and Tripp Lite becomes Eaton. Line items entered as "Other" are matched to a brand from the applicant's description where possible, and shown as Unspecified otherwise.
  • The trend charts compare each year's applications as filed, on eligible amounts, so every year is measured the same way.
